SILK TWILL

Silk Twill is smooth, substantial, and beautifully responsive to color, silk twill is distinguished by its subtle diagonal weave and supple body. Sylvie Silk offers silk twill in 14.5 and 16 momme and 45″ and 54″ widths for scarves, apparel, accessories, and projects requiring more structure than very lightweight silks.

What Is Silk Twill?

Silk twill is woven with a characteristic diagonal structure visible across the fabric surface. This construction gives the silk additional body and durability while preserving the softness and flexibility associated with silk.

Compared with charmeuse, twill generally has a more restrained sheen and greater structural presence.

Working With Silk Twill

Silk Twill is generally easier to control during cutting than very sheer silk fabrications, although careful handling is still important.

Use a fine needle and test stitching before construction. The diagonal weave should also be considered when matching printed motifs or working with bias-cut components.

Caring for Silk Twill

  • Hand wash gently in cold water when appropriate.
  • Use mild silk detergent.
  • Avoid soaking, rubbing, twisting, or wringing.
  • Blot gently and reshape while damp.
  • Air dry away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Press from the reverse using low heat.
  • Structured or tailored finished pieces may benefit from professional cleaning.
